Buy the biggest greenhouse that your space and budget will accommodate. We recommend you go for maximum width rather than length, as our Amateur and Traditional Greenhouses can be extended with 5’ modules at a later date. You can optimise storage and growing space with staging and high-level shelving.
If space in your garden is limited, consider an Octagonal greenhouse – its compact footprint is ideal for the smaller garden while its added height is an attractive focal point.
If you’re looking for a sheltered growing space close to your house, choose a Lean-to – a high-quality half greenhouse that can be built against an exterior wall. The wall effectively acts as a radiator, warming up during the day and slowly releasing heat into your greenhouse at night.
Siting your greenhouse
| • |
Consider access to water and power supplies when choosing your site
|
| • |
Avoid positioning your greenhouse near trees, in the shadow of walls or other structures, or in highly exposed positions
|
| • |
Locate a freestanding greenhouse with its ridge running from east to west as this gives better light penetration in the winter when the sun is low in the sky
|
| • |
Ideally site a lean-to greenhouse against a south-facing wall to maximise light and warmth
|
| • |
For convenience, aim to site your greenhouse as close to your house as possible. Try to ensure it doesn’t fall in your house’s shadow. |
 |
Set against a south facing wall, lean-to greenhouses are perfect when space is limited. |
